DRA 20th anniversary celebration is Saturday
By Staff 10/03/2007
Dr. Bill Heffernan, widely known as an expert in corporate consolidation in agriculture, will talk about his newest research on global agriculture concentration trends at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Spring Lake Hunting Lodge & Resort south of Arlington. Heffernan is Professor Emeritus of the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Heffernan will provide the keynote address for Dakota Rural Action's 20th anniversary celebration. The event will also include DRA's annual membership meeting and interactive workshops on agri-tourism, retirement planning, the 2007 Farm Bill and media messaging.

Additional speakers include:

-- Dr. Mary Hendrickson, Extension Assistant Professor of Rural Sociology at the University of Missouri, and founder of the Food Circles Networking Project

-- Brad Redlin, Ag Policy Director for the Izaak Walton League

-- Dr. Russ Stubbles, South Dakota State University Professor of Parks and Recreation

-- Scott Miller, independent investment advisor

-- Pat Sweeney, Director of the Western Organization of Resource Councils.

According to DRA Committee Chair Meredith Redlin, "The speakers that DRA has lined up for its 20th anniversary celebration are a `must-hear' for anyone who has an interest in the future of agriculture or rural America. We hope many people will take the opportunity to come out to the beautiful Spring Lake Lodge and learn from them."

DRA's 20th anniversary celebration is open to the public. For more information, including registration fees and a detailed agenda, call Dakota Rural Action at 605-697-5204.
