The Dakota State University men's 4x800-meter relay team -- Andy Coy, Cody Foreman, Matt Fideler and Tyler Van Peursem -- captured third place in the finals at the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in Marion, Ind.
The team set a new school record in a time of 7 minutes, 30.74 seconds on Saturday. The foursome was .3 second short of breaking the all-time South Dakota 4x800-meter relay record currently held by Augustana College. The previous school record was set in 1999 by Cory Lunn, Paul Saville, John Ecklein and Shaun Fransen (7:34.88).
For their finish, the DSU relay team members earned NAIA All-American honors.
Van Peursem placed 10th in the 1500-meter run in a time of 3:56.22, third best in school history.
Devon Berkness placed ninth in the 10,000-meter run in a time of 32:03.35.
In the 3000-meter steeplechase, Anthony Drealan placed 13th with a time of 9:38.32.
Danielle Rowe cleared the high jump with a measurement of five feet, three inches for a 13th-place finish.
Brittany Young and Stephanie Warnke ran the 800-meter run. Warnke advanced to the semifinals but did not qualify for the finals.
The NAIA National Outdoor Track & Field Championship meet concluded the 2010 Dakota State's outdoor track and field season.
