Multi-sport star Drew Kreutzfeldt, a Chester Area senior, has some important decisions ahead. He said that he has been in contact with several colleges about his future as an athlete, but he is uncertain which school or sport he will pursue. "As of right now it's wide open," said Kreutzfeldt. "I've been in contact with several schools, and I will be going to a couple of upcoming camps as the summer winds down so, hopefully, I will have a better idea as the summer comes to an end." Kreutzfeldt has said that he would like to play college football. While the All-State athlete in basketball and football isn't sure about his school choice in the fall of 2011, he is certain he wants his Flyers' to compete for a state championship in football and basketball, after falling short his sophomore and junior seasons. "Expectations for the Flyers are extremely high," he said. "We want to be champions. In football, we believe that we have a very good chance of getting to the Dome and winning the 9AA championship. In basketball, it is no different. We want to be able to get to the state tournament and try to make a run. ``I have had all of the individual awards, but other than some recognition, they mean nothing. In football, a successful season ends with us hoisting the trophy in Vermillion," said Kreutzfeldt, who works several nights in the summer as an umpire at Madison ball fields with twin brother Dylan. "We have all the pieces to the puzzle to be able to make runs in both basketball and football, provided we avoid injuries. We are confident going in." Kreutzfeldt, a quarterback and safety, tasted the state championship experience as a junior in baseball and track & field, but is eager to do something on the football field. The Flyers will have their first football games in just seven. "As much as I'd like to start the season right now, we're not ready," he said. "We still have a lot of stuff to figure out as far as people in certain positions and getting timing and alignments ready." With a talented senior class that includes Keenan Soyland, Jordan VanLiere and others, Drew Kreutzfeldt is looking forward to being a leader. "We have a few leaders and I enjoy being one. Sometimes you have to be the nice guy, and sometimes you have to get after people," he said. "The important this is to always work hard and stress the same to others," he said. "Going into senior year, (I) got to love being on top of the food chain and want to have a lot of fun with my fellow classmates." In order to achieve their goals, the Flyers have been working hard in the offseason. "This summer, me and most of the guys have been putting in a lot of work early in the day with our acceleration program, working on getting bigger and faster. Aside from that, we're putting extra time in the gym and hitting up a bundle of camps," said Kreutzfeldt. "Players are made in the summer. Teams are made during the season." Whatever happens this year, Kreutzfeldt wants to be known as a high school athlete who was successful. "I want to be remembered as a winner, a guy that always worked hard and earned everything he got. Also, someone who made everyone around him better," Kreutzfeldt said.
