Gust, Janke file petitions to run for county auditor
By CHUCK CLEMENT, Staff Reporter 03/09/2010
Two Madison women filed election petitions on Friday to run for the position of Lake County Auditor during this fall's county elections.

Shelli Gust is currently employed as a paralegal in the Lake County State's Attorney's Office, a position that she has held since moving to Madison in 2006.

Gust, a Republican Party candidate, has six years of experience in public service, including positions as communications officer and communications sergeant with the Winner Police Department. Before working in Winner's 911 operations center, she taught junior and senior high school in Estelline.

An Alcester native, Gust graduated from South Dakota State University with a bachelor's degree in psychology.

She is married to Brandon Gust, county conservation officer for the state Game, Fish & Parks Department, and they have two children, Brayden and Kaysen.

Roberta "Bobbi" Janke serves as a deputy auditor with Lake County, having 22 years of experience in that office.

Janke started working as second deputy auditor in 1987 in the Lake County Auditor's Office. She currently works as the first deputy auditor with County Auditor Kay Schmidt.

Janke, a Democratic Party candidate, has lived most of her life in Madison. Her family moved into the community when she was 3 months old.

Janke attended Dakota State University for one year while also working part-time for East River Electric Power Cooperative, performing data-entry work. She then found employment with the county.

She and her husband Ronald, a Gehl-Mustang Co. employee, have three children, Heith, Mark and Andrea, and six grandchildren.
