Brunsvig earns Eagle rank
By ELISA SAND, Staff Reporter 03/10/2010
Tyler Brunsvig
Tyler Brunsvig has completed the requirements to obtain his rank of Eagle Scout. He will receive that award in a Court of Honor ceremony on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Madison.

Brunsvig, a member of Troop 5, is the son of Sheldon Brunsvig and Rona Boulais.

To obtain the rank of Eagle, a scout must earn a specific number of badges, show leadership in his troop and complete an Eagle Scout project. For his project, Brunsvig built picnic tables at Prairie Village.

Asked if there were any lessons he learned through that project, Brunsvig said that he learned changes are something that will happen.

"There's going to be changes and things you have to adapt for," he said.

During his scouting experience, Brunsvig said, he's learned a lot about leadership from parents who are involved in the troop and from the older scouts. Now an older scout himself, Brunsvig said he enjoys the opportunities he gets to work with the younger scouts.

Through his time as a scout, Brunsvig said, he's enjoyed the trips the scouts have taken.

"We've gone on a lot of amazing trips," he said.

Some of those trips have included hiking trips in Colorado, canoeing at Boundary Waters in Minnesota and visiting Medicine Mountain in the Black Hills.

Brunsvig is a senior at Madison High School. He plans to attend the University of South Dakota in the fall to earn a business degree.
