A son, Smith James, weighing 8 lbs. 9 oz., was born on July 15 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls to Jayna and Joe Backus of Crooks. Grandparents are Wayne and Bonnie Backus of Wentworth and James and Ruth Ackerman of George, Iowa.
