The Madison City Commission held a special meeting on Monday at 4:30 p.m., different from the usual 5:30 p.m.

An alcohol consumption permit for Rubi Robledo was approved unanimously. Robledo wanted the single-day permit for a birthday party located at Downtown Armory.

The commission also unanimously voted to amend Appendix B. This will change the zoning district of Lot 5 of Schultz’s Addition from R-90, a single family residence, to R-20, a multiple family residence.

The commission briefly announced board vacancies on the library board, park board and planning commission.

During public comment, one resident addressed the commission meeting’s time change. According to state law, open meetings must post a time change at least 24 hours in advance. The resident said they did not do that.

“This is the second time this has happened in the last six months,” the resident said.

Mayor Roy Lindsay apologized and promised to do so in the future. The commission also mentioned to watch the website in case of a situation like this occurring.

“We weren’t trying to hide the meeting,” Commissioner Jeremiah Corbin said.

The next meeting will be the commission’s regular meeting on June 6 at 5:30 p.m.
