The Lake Area Improvement Corporation strives to enhance the quality of life for all citizens of the Lake County area and to facilitate the development and retention of quality jobs that are environmentally and economically compatible for Lake County.
The LAIC, in cooperation with other organizations, initiates and develops leadership, markets the area to both prospective new businesses and residents, fosters and manages change, and nurtures a positive, cooperative and progressive attitude.
It’s important we continue to improve the quality of life and all-around living standards. It is our strength to facilitate people, information, opportunities and remove roadblocks to allow progress.
Since starting in October, I’ve had the privilege of hearing from many of our business owners and community members. Although each encounter is unique, two common concerns - lack of accessible childcare and the need for additional workforce - are consistent. This message is also consistent from one community to the next across our state.
The LAIC has taken great initiative to provide childcare in our community that matches the workforce needs. Childcare availability in Lake County has been a constant challenge with even less availability for those who qualify for state and federal aid.
The lack of affordable childcare limits the Madison area community from accepting new workers. It is our vision to create an all-inclusive childcare facility where boundaries and expectations provide children and families with a sense of safety. When unexpected changes occur, their safely and security is impacted.
While workforce challenges are consistent state and nationwide, we are committed to attracting new families to our community. We work closely with other communities; local, regional and state organizations group together for marketing to join resources to make the most of marketing efforts.
While we are focused on childcare and workforce recruitment, we are cognizant of housing needs, industrial park growth, business attraction and community engagement.
This is the exciting part of working in economic development. While we focus on childcare and workforce, there are still so many other opportunities and projects to move our community forward.
We look forward to the continued collaboration with our partners and community members.
