Convenience store closing

DAKOTA EXPRESS, at the intersection of Washington Ave. and N.E. 2nd St. will close on Friday. The decision is based on simple economics, according to Shannon Kauffman, one of two men who has been operating the business in recent years. “It comes down to footsteps in the store,” he said. “Everybody always goes to the new stuff.” Since the convenience store lies in a flood plain, options for upgrading the store are limited. With the current economic environment, Kauffman said it simply wasn’t viable to keep the store open.
